Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy can benefit anyone experiencing emotional distress, mental health issues, or seeking personal growth. Generally, if you find yourself avoiding more and more things in life, don’t feel quite like yourself, or feel more reactive and anxious, then you’d likely benefit from counseling.

An initial consultation can help determine if therapy is suitable for your needs. Reach out today and let’s discuss your concerns.

Progress can be assessed through regular check-ins, goal reviews, and self-reported improvements in mood, behavior, and overall functioning. I also use outcome measures for more objective ways to see progress. Most clients begin to see improvements to their concerns within the first few weeks.

The first session typically involves discussing your reasons for seeking therapy, your background, and setting goals for treatment. It’s an opportunity to ask questions and understand the therapeutic process so you know what to expect moving forward. Sometimes I’ll give you something to practice or work on before our next session.

Sessions are designed around your specific goals and concerns. I will offer a conceptualization or diagnosis and provide education on what and how your particular concerns are functioning. I will provide detailed insight into treatment options so you can make the most informed decision about your therapy process. If it doesn’t feel right to you, let’s talk about that. Your experience matters to me.

I’m supportive, encouraging, and directive when I need to be. I’ll call you on your S when the time is right. Sometimes my humor is a little dry and I’m a bit quirky, but I care deeply about providing effective therapy.

This is different for everyone. However, most clients work with me once a week for a minimum of 6 weeks and sometimes for an entire year. My average client works with me for 6 months, with many returning for check-ins as needed. After our first session, I will provide recommendations for treatment frequency and length.

Yes, absolutely. Online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as in person counseling for many people. Although, it’s important to recognize it’s not appropriate or helpful for everyone. You can learn more about that here.
